The life of an international gundog

Bree is an amazing little yellow Labrador that is based in the United States. To escape the summer heat, Bree returned to the UK for a summer training season to prepare her for the US hunting season which begins on September 1st. Although the UK has had one of the warmest summers on record in 2025, it is still significantly cooler than the temperatures experienced in Texas. This facilitates training on steadiness, retrieving and game finding ability in addition to lots of fun playing with the dogs in the Glasybont kennel.

After her flight from Los Angeles to Heathrow, Bree started working with our trainers using the latest air powered dummy launching systems to increase her memory and ability to observe and mark dummies.

Bree’s training progressed to test her steadiness and the excitement of a full day and line of guns when she spent the day at a simulated game day at the Barbury shooting school in Wiltshire. It was an important day for Bree with it being her first time sitting up in the line of guns which tested her steadiness, a crucial skill needed for her for the later season once live game begins.

But it hasn’t been all work no play for Bree this summer with her getting a weeks vacation in Pembrokeshire, where she spent her time consolidating her training in the day on the beach and coastal national park followed by relaxing on the sofa at night.
